Community Outreach

In addition to providing fresh fruit and vegetable produce home delivery, The Produce Box is proud to work with our customers to make a difference in the lives of children, families, farmers and organizations throughout North Carolina.

• We're partnering with UNC and Blue Cross Blue Shield of NC to bring fresh produce boxes to lower-income neighborhoods in the Triangle and Triad. Last fall, this program allowed more than 80 families to receive low-priced produce boxes, getting high-quality, nutrient-rich fruits and vegetbles to the people who need them and providing an additional outlet for farmers to sell their harvests.  The Produce Box is strengthening the connection with our communities! 

• Our workforce reflects the communities we live in, and we work with organizations like Wake Enterprises and Step Up Ministries to help provide help at our HUB. (We were pleased to be honored as Small Business Employer of the Year by the City of Raleigh for those efforts)
   
• So nothing goes to waste, we make weekly donations of fresh vegetables and fruits to Interfaith Food Shuttle, the Food Bank of NC and various church organizations, helping provide food for Backpack Buddies and other community programs.
   
• We’re teaching kids to eat healthier in our community.

We provide support to any school that asks, whether it be in the form of a “veggie activity” held on a Spirit Night, or a gift certificate for their Silent Auction. Even tasting tables are a fun way to introduce kids to new foods.

We’ve formed partnerships with other community organizations to help “get the word out” about what “goodness grows in North Carolina”.

• Farm Fund Grants: Thanks to the phenomenal support and enthusiasm of our members, we were able to send over $20,000 in farm grants to our partners in 2012. (No strings attached.) These funds have been used to purchase seed, equipment and other aids for our North Carolina-based farmers. This funding comes directly from our members and we're so glad to be able to provide it.
   
• Tornado assistance funding: We’re proud to be able to provide financial support to our farm-partners when mother nature intervenes. In April of 2011, our members helped fund improvements to two farms damaged by a tornado.
