Terms of Use and FAQ

How does this program work?  Is it a contract? Do I get to choose my box each week?

When you become a member, you sign up for an AUTOMATIC weekly delivery of fruits and vegetables and other local items to your home, place of work or other designated location. The contents of your box will change week to week depending on the time of year, the weather, and quantities available. Sometimes, we allow a “farmer’s choice” of a particular item. For example, a “farmer’s choice” for melons, when we’re not sure what’s going to be ready in time from the fields. It may be honeydew or a cantaloupe, or even a personal watermelon.

Once you sign up for our service you will get an automatic box delivered to your desired location each week (Box A is the default choice) unless you skip your delivery by logging onto the site.

If you go to the site to choose a box other than the standard, you’ll pay online at the time of order. If you don’t skip or change the box, your credit card will be billed once the deadline for changes passes each week. You’ll receive an email confirmation in both cases, along with details about your order.

There is no commitment to The Produce Box. If you would like to cancel your account, all you need to do is go on to your online account and cancel. Please contact your Neighborhood Coordinator to pick up your last empty box and any outstanding payments.   Please do not send an email to the website in lieu of logging onto the site to cancel. All cancellations must be made by the Sunday preceding the upcoming week’s order.

All memberships are automatically renewed each year and all members are billed the seasonal enrollment fee on January 10th  for the upcoming season. Please complete all cancellations for the new year by this time to avoid this billing.

What if I need to make a change? What if I miss the deadline?

Any changes to your account must be done via our website or by calling and speaking with your Neighborhood Coordinator.  Any changes to your order must be done by our deadlines. Once the deadline hits we are unable to make any changes to your order. The deadline for changes to your order or for skipping a week’s delivery is Sunday at midnight for the upcoming week.  Our farmers plan their harvest according to the count Sunday night, so it’s important. Thanks for understanding!

We will not make a delivery if you are a box behind in payments to us.

Currently, we deliver on Wednesdays and Thursdays each week. Your neighborhood coordinator will let you know which day you will receive your box.  We reserve the right to change your delivery day at any time with seven days notice. Notice will be given via our website and possibly an email.

What about the weather? Where will the box be left?

If the temperature is expected to be above 65, please designate a shady area for the box. You may also be asked leave a cooler out with an ice pack for our more fragile items and we will move the more fragile items from the box into your cooler and take the empty box back. Please leave your previous week’s box and all inside containers out on your delivery day so we can re-use the box the following week.

We deliver to many parts of the Triangle, Winston Salem, Charlotte and Wilmington. We reserve the right to not deliver to a location. Deliveries made to offices may be left with a secretary. You are responsible for leaving payment and getting the produce from that person. We do not guarantee delivery by any hour. We can't guarantee the quality of the produce if you do not leave out a cooler either. Please be sure to leave ice packs in the cooler. It becomes an "oven" in the heat if you don't. Not good for veggies.

We will post the menu each week by 3pm on Friday. The menu is not visible on the site until that time. You will receive an email on Friday listing your box choices and any add-ons. If you are not receiving the emails please call or email us and we will do our best to remedy the situation.

We guarantee the quality of all produce and products you receive. That being said, we do not throw out all items with small blemishes or spots. We hate to waste good food, so if you can cut around the spot and still use most of the veggie, please do so. If not, please let your Neighborhood Coordinator know and we'll either replace that item the following day or the next date of box delivery.

Our minimum order is one of the three boxes available each week. We cannot deliver any of our additional items if you have not ordered a produce box.
