Stick Boy Bread Co: Fresh-Baked Tradition, Delivered Across the Triangle

In downtown Fuquay-Varina, a former Western Auto building hums from early morning on. Espresso machines run steadily, paper bags crinkle open to reveal still-warm pastries, and conversations carry across the room between neighbors who know each other by name. The bakery feels so embedded in the small town that it is easy to assume it's always been there.

Stick Boy's fresh-baked Sourdough Bread is one of out best-selling bakery products!

Stick Boy Bread Company, located on Main Street, traces its roots back to Boone, where the original Stick Boy Bakery began in 2001. Katie Dies first connected with the popular business as a student at Appalachian State, and over time that connection turned into years of working side by side with the founders. When she and her husband Josh moved to Fuquay, they carried that same approach with them and opened the bakery’s second location in 2008 on Main Street.

As reported by Our State, something pulled at the couple to create a true community gathering place that the town needed.

“There wasn’t a whole lot happening on Main Street at that time, but we just thought what if?” Katie said. “What if it could be something fun and where people can bring their families?”

You can enjoy Stick Boy's infamous Cinnamon Rolls from the comfort of your home with your next Produce Box delivery.

They describe their intention simply as creating “a place where people could come together, enjoy great food, and have meaningful conversations.” That idea still shows up in the space today, where people return week after week and build familiarity over time, including many regulars who’ve been able to enjoy life together over the last 18+ years.

Bread, pastries, and cakes are made from scratch using a short list of simple ingredients and traditional methods that take time. Dough is mixed, rested, and baked in a way that prioritizes flavor and structure rather than speed. There are no preservatives extending shelf life, and no frozen products being finished off in the oven. As Josh and Katie put it,

“Nothing that we serve is shipped in frozen from thousands of miles away… This is the real thing.”

That commitment shapes how their bread moves through our system to the homes of Produce Box members across Raleigh, Durham, Chapel Hill, and the wider Triangle.

Baked to Order, Delivered to your Door

Stick Boy items are listed as available for purchase when the menu opens on Thursday at 12pm, and orders close at 4:00pm on Sunday. We send exact quantities to the bakery that afternoon, their team bakes overnight, and everything arrives fresh to our warehouse for delivery to your door within 24-48 hours.

This is the same approach you have seen with other bakeries we work with, and it reflects a shared way of doing things. Food is made in smaller batches, with fewer ingredients, and on a timeline that follows the process rather than forcing it. Nothing is leftover at the end of the week, meaning no baked goods are wasted – a big feat in one of the most perishable grocery categories.

We’ve partnered with Stick Boy to offer 10% off the next two weeks, just in time for Mother’s Day and graduation gatherings. It’s the perfect time to add something new to your box and taste tradition baked just down the road.
